Baltrum is the smallest of the East Frisian Islands with only about 500 inhabitants. It is also car-free, which is not a big problem, because you can reach every point of the island easily by foot. It takes only 10-15 Minutes to get from the harbor to the city of Baltrum, where you can find many shops, restaurants and cafés and guesthouses.
You can go for a swim at the adventure pool with its wellness area. If you prefer swimming in the sea and enjoying the beach, you will be happy that Baltrum has one of the whitest beaches of the East-Frisian Islands. You can also try kitesurfing, windsurfing there or rent a kayak or catamaran. The kite-and windsurfing school is right at the beach if you like to get some instructions for your first try.
The MS Baltrum III is ready to take you on a journey to explore the neighbor islands, Juist, Norderney, Langeoog and Spiekeroog. It also offers a safari tour through the Wadden Sea – If you are lucky, you can watch seals. The tours are available from March to October.
The museum “Altes Zollhaus” shows you the history of Baltrum. It includes four rooms and two galleries. An audio-guide will lead you through the museum. To learn more about the history of Baltrum you can visit several churches, the “Alte Inselkirche”, the Roman Catholic Church St. Nikolaus and the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
